If You Love Design
…go to the Cooper-Hewitt museum in NYC
A couple of years ago, I was visiting a friend in New York and saw that the Cooper-Hewitt museum was having an exhibition called “Design for the Other 90%” and “Design for Life Now”. They are two of the best and most memorable exhibits I’ve ever seen. They made me happy to be working in the design business.
The Cooper Hewitt is a great museum for a number of reasons. It was formerly the mansion owned by Andrew Carnegie, a well-know philanthropist who made his money in the steel business. A beautiful old building with a wonderful garden space, the museum is just the right size and not too overwhelming.
Both of these exhibits reminded me of why design is so important. Great design transforms people’s lives. It improves life through beautiful landscaping, a great experience sitting in the outpatient surgery chair, or through a simple donut shaped water container that can be rolled from the well to home.
Don’t miss the next exhibit coming up October 16th called Design USA – Contemporary Innovation
